Tillett Debut Artists 2019

British violinist Roberto Ruisi has rapidly emerged as a versatile, charismatic and bold artist.

In 2022, Roberto was announced as Leader of the Hallé Orchestra, making his debut in October with Sir Mark Elder. Roberto had already appeared as guest Concertmaster in multiple professional orchestras including L’Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, both by the age of 19. More recently, he has appeared in guest leading roles with BBC Philharmonic and Britten Sinfonia. Roberto is also a core member of 12 Ensemble, who have developed a reputation as one of Europe's most exhilarating collectives.

Previous winner of both the Royal Over-Seas League String Prize and the Swiss Ambassador’s Award, and a recipient of the Tillett Debut Scheme, Roberto is already an established soloist. He made his full debut recital at Wigmore Hall in 2019 with award-winning pianist and duo partner, Sten Heinoja, and were commissioned for an album at the end of 2020.

"In Roberto Ruisi we have a hugely talented violinist and Leader whose youth and dynamism will lead this great orchestra's pioneering spirit in the years to come."
Sir Mark Elder

On completion of his studies at the Royal College of Music, Roberto was awarded the prestigious Tagore Gold Medal. He was also generously loaned a Stradivarius between 2014-2017, and as a Foundation Scholar and subsequently an ABRSM Scholar at RCM, has received tutoring from the likes of Pinchas Zukerman and Maxim Vengerov, as well as performing as a soloist with the RCM Symphony Orchestra. Roberto plays on a Guarneri del Gesù courtesy of Florian Leonhard Fine Violins.
