Award winning Spanish saxophonist Manu Brazo, a graduate of the RCM, has appeared on BBC Radio 3 In Tune and on Classic FM, when his performance was described as ‘100% colossal and amazing’. Romanian violinist Maria Gîlicel studied in Madrid before coming to the RCM in London where she is currently studying for her Masters in Performance. She made her orchestral debut at the National Auditorium in Madrid and has since performed at many prestigious venues, including Wigmore Hall and St. John’s Smith Square. Two new artists have been selected to join the Tillett young musicians scheme in 2019. These are violinist Roberto Ruisi and cellist Toby White.
22 year old Roberto Ruisi is currently in his first year of PG study at the Royal College. A past leader of the National Youth Orchestra (a post he held for 3 years) he was a string finalist in the BBC Young Musician of the Year in 2014 as well as winner of the Eastbourne Young Soloist Competition. He has been described by renowned conductor Vasily Petrenko as ‘one of the leading British violinists of the future’.
Cellist Toby White is currently on the Artist Diploma course at GSMD where he is coached by Louise Hopkins. A pupil at Wells Cathedral School, he is the currently holder of the Help Musicians UK Motesiczky Scholarship. His has also received support from the Fleming and Musicians Company award schemes and the Harriet Cohen Memorial Trust scholarship. He is the cellist of the Jubilee String Quartet
Pianist GEORGE TODICA and the MAGNARD WIND ENSEMBLE gave a fabulous concert before a large and enthusiastic audience at Wigmore Hall on Monday 29 October. Their programme included works by Leo Geyer, Bach, Enescu, Rachmaninov, Chopin, Granados, Ligeti and Paul Patterson. They played as their final work an arrangement of Fauré’s Berceuse from his Dolly Suite, arranged for wind quintet and piano by Joseph Shiner.
Four exciting young artists were selected at the recent YAP auditions to join the scheme in the coming year. This will be showcased in one of central London prestigious halls as well as a series of concert dates for promoters around the UK.
